Mr Andrew Iswahyudi, Seminarian of the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross, was instituted into the Ministry of Acolyte this Sunday, 18th April 2021, by Monsignor Harry Entwistle PA (Ordinary Emeritus). Monsignor Entwistle was deputed to carry out the institution on behalf of the Ordinary Monsignor Carl Reid PA. The Parish solemnly and warmly congratulations Mr Iswahyudi on this next step in his spiritual journey and preparation towards the priesthood.
The conferral of the Ministry of Acolyte conveys a closer association of a layman with ministering at the altar. For a seminarian, receiving the Ministry of Acolyte marks an important stage in their pastoral and liturgical formation. Acolytes are able, where there is a pastoral need, to perform the ablutions after Communion, to distribute Holy Communion, and to fulfil other subdiaconal duties at Mass, more closely associating themselves with the liturgical actions in the sanctuary. As part of the ceremony of institution, the candidate is presented with a ciborium, symbolising the role the acolyte will play in the rites of the Preparation of the Gifts and also the care of sacred vessels and their care for the Eucharistic species. Mr Iswahyudi is pictured below receiving the ciborium from Monsignor Entwistle.
